When an employee and employer find themselves in a dispute, they often bring in legal counsel to help resolve their differences. For example, in Texas, a defendant has at least twenty days to answer a lawsuit and, in most situations, opposing parties have at least thirty days to respond to written discovery requests. Some clients may feel frustrated that not much activity occurs while waiting for the other side to answer the lawsuit or respond to discovery requests, but the time frames established by the rules of civil procedure are designed to allow each party adequate time to investigate and address the matters at issue.
